CABLE/HOMAN Ballston NY circa 1800

Our Cable brick wall is in Ballston, Saratoga Co. NY, where Isaac CABLE, was born on 10 Sep 1786. He married Mary HOMAN in 1804.

We haven't found any Homans or Cables enumerated or buried in Ballston, NY, except for a John Cable, who in 1800 had a wife and seven children. We desire to know if this is our ancestor before carving his name in stone and trying to dig back any further. (We are working on twelve other family lines as well.)

Isaac CABLE was educated in the East, becoming a teacher and musician. He and Mary lived in Lima, Alfred, and Canisteo, New York, and began migrating west after 1816.

They lived and/or had children in New York; Laconia and New Albany, Indiana; Jefferson County and Westport, Kentucky; and St. Louis, Missouri.

After this generation, most of our Cable men were rivermen (steamboat pilots, captains or owners) and many Cable women married rivermen.

They travelled the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, and most ultimately settled in St. Louis, Missouri.

Our notes on Isaac and Mary Homan Cable, and their descendents, are at www.maxon-stein.com/cable/cable.htm.

One other note for Cable researchers. Isaac Cable's photograph album is in the Photographs and Prints Collections of the Missouri Historical Society in St. Louis. We hope to go there someday and photograph them.

The album contains twelve carte de visite portraits of Cable family members and friends. Subjects include: Isaac Cable, Frank Cayton, Alice E. Cayton, Alex Badger, Mary Ann Badger, Nancy Cable Chambers, Charles Cayton, and others.

I would be delighted to hear from other researchers, descendents and relatives of Isaac Cable and/or Mary Homan.
