Hi, Betty, You probably have thought I fell off the earth. Not so! I do apologize for not having read your post before now. There just don't seem to be enough hours in the day! I have been working on other family lines of both mine and my husband, John Steven Ledbetter (Steve). What a nightmare! There always seems to be "brickwalls" everywhere. I have also been trying to give some help to a relative of Steve's. She is a very sweet lady in her nineties, and does so much want to get her family records together for her children and grandchildren. I wanted to tell you about my father (adoptive), HENRY HARRISON DABBS and his wife, DORA MAE (HICKS) DABBS. Since my real mother (EVA MILDRED [DABBS] WILLIAMSON) died shortly after my birth, and my father (THOMAS WASHINGTON WILLIAMSON, from Lake City, S.C.) could not take care of a puny newborn, my great-uncle and great-aunt legally adopted me. My real grandparents were ROBERT HAMPTON & CORINNA FRANCES (SMITH) DABBS. (NOTE: DORA MAE (HICKS) DABBS' family of HICKS are closely related to the SANFORDS.) BUT, enough of this! HENRY HARRISON DABBS had been a policeman, and a farmer when I was young. He had a very good friend, that my father (aka great-uncle) always called "BROCK". He was always so nice to me, and treated me wonderfully. He must have felt the same about me. Once, my mother (my great-aunt) was going to take a short trip in a plane at the small airfield in Rockingham, N.C. Wnen "BROCK" found out about it, he made sure that he was there to take care of me, and would not allow Mother (my great-aunt) to take me up with her out of fear the plane would crash. I noticed you had a posting concerning someone whose name was "BROCK", and wondered if the "BROCK" I knew could have been related to you. As I recall, he was from Gaffney, S.C. A tragedy happened when he was visiting Gaffney. He was killed in Gaffney, while riding his motor cycle. I can still see him in my mind riding his motor cycle. I do not think he was a tall man, but one with dark hair, and always neat in his uniform. Regarding JANE KNOTTS, there were quite a number of KNOTTS that resided in Anson Co., N.C. The names I see in some of my records are as follows: ABSALOM; BENJAMIN; EDMUND; EDWARD; HARVY T.; JAMES; JAMES M. JOHN; JOHN B.; JOHN G.; JOHN J.; JOHN Sr.; JONATHAN; JNOL.; MARY C. (wife of JOHN; heir of NEVIL BENNETT); MELTON/MILTON; NANCY, wife of BENJAMIN; JONATHAN; JNOL; THOMAS; and WILLIAM. Some of these, such as the names of "JAMES" and "JOHN" may be the same person. I bought the books by Dr. A. B. Pruitt, ABSTRACTS OF DEEDS, ANSON COUNTY, N. C. The books that I have are very informative, as the deeds often show lines of descent. I just wish I could find DAVID SIDNEY DABBS' parents. My HINSON connection is through the LILES FAMILY. I haven't really done a lot of research on this family. I do know they were, as so many other families, from the mass of QUAKERS that came down from MARYLAND, through VIRGINIA, and into NORTH CAROLINA. I enjoyed reading your post. I really thought I was to be notified whenever I received a post. Obviously, it doesn't work that way, even though I asked that I be notified. Now what would make me think things would work the way they say they should? Hope to hear from you again. If you like, write directly to me. I usually write my address at the end after my name. Happy hunting, Bobbie Williamson-Dabbs Ledbetter blsl@knology.net Notify Administrator about this message?
