Info from the Astoria, IL sesquicentennial book, 1987, indicates that Franklin Fackler, born in Virginia in 1807, came to Astoria very early on, perhaps 1835 with his wife, the former Caroline Deary (or Derry?). His father, Samuel, was a tanner in VA, and his mother was Elizabeth Fenton Fackler.
Franklin had one unnamed brother. Franklin was Astoria's only blacksmith for a number of years. He and Caroline had 8 children, only two are named in the book, J. T. Fackler 1840 who married Harriet Tracy and had 7 children; also named, Samuel 1842, who married 1868 Isabel Price, dau. of Benj. Price of PA. George, Lillie, Nellie and Grace their children.
Now, can anyone tell me who the James Ross Fackler of Astoria was who married Julia Lemon and had a daughter, Enola, in 1882?
By the way, when Franklin Fackler came to Astoria, at the same time, or shortly thereafter, Derry's and Fenton's were also there.
