A biography/detailed family history of Walter P. Jaquette is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, pages 981 and 982. The early ancestral family were Huegeunots who fled from France to Switzerland, and later the family became prominent citizens in the US.
Walter P. Jaquette was born 1863, Pennsylvania, son of P.L. and Elinor (Greenfield) Jaquette. In 1886, Walter spent a summer in California, then came to Sheridan, MT, where he prospected for a time. He moved to the Flathead country, pre-empted land, and eventually owned 240 acres three miles west of Kalispell, MT. He also successfully engaged in buying and selling land.
Walter married Luella Belle Patton, native of Pennsylvania, daughter of James and Isabel (Bleakney) Patton. Jaquette children: Dorothy, Paul, Isabel, Dorothy (Mrs. Mark Hodgeson), Luella, Josephine, Eleanor, Nancy, and James. The mother, Luella Patton, died and her sister, Mary Patton, came from Pennsylvania to take care of the Jaquette children. Later she became the wife of Walter Jaquette.
