One account that I have read indicates that Squaw Sachem Weetamo of the Pocassets was amoung those who escaped but was drowned in the swamp. Her body was found and her head was taken to Taunton.
The best book that I have found about the war is" Flintlock and Tomahawk: New England in King Philip's War" by Douglas Edward Leach. It is out of print but there are several copies available at Amazon. There are very few books that cover the war this is very complete, readable and filled with well documented info, names dates and the larger story of the colonial politics.
