Linda, I have just read your inquiry about one Captain Jonathan WELLS in King Philip's War. To begin with I cannot tell you anything about this war however, there are already some similarities in the man both of us are researching and I'm wondering if we are working on the same lineage. My (actually my husband's) Jonathan WELLS was born in Massachusetts and that's all I know about him. He did marry Prudence CHASE of New Hampshire. Their daughter, Phoebe Elizabeth WELLS married Orrin Dunning HOPKINS 18 Mar 1852. Phoebe and Orrin died in Monona, Clayton, Iowa. I found the following information at this web-site: http://chase.genealogysurnames.com SECTION 2...CHASE/CHACE CHRONICLES...ISSUE 1 Continuous Thirst. A clipping from a Vermont paper of early November, 1832, reads thus: Married, in Fletcher, Franklin Co., on the 25th ult., by Rev. J. Wright, Mr. Jonathan Wells of St. Albans to Miss Prudence Chase, daughter of Mr. Thaddeus Chase of the former place. “Jonathan has, in the present case, In Prudence started with a Chase; May they go on till both shall die, Drinking from Wells* that never dry. “* Issiah (sic) xii, 3.” Jonathan Wells died Aug. 26, 1847, and his widow married, Sept. 7, 1848, “Luther Wells, an older brother of Jonathan. Prudence (Chase) Wells was the daughter of Thaddeus Elliott Chase (Abel 5, Ambrose 4, Isaac 3, Daniel 2, Aquila 1.) I do have a bit of additional information but it is very sketchy. If you think this is also your line, please let me know. I would be happy to work with you on it. Please reply to renaye@pacbell.net Thank you, Renaye Notify Administrator about this message?
