Bonnie,
Michel Labatte and his son, Francois are my ancestors. I don't know how many children Francois, we call him Francis, had. His son, Phillippe, or Phillip Labatte is my gt-gt grandfather. Phillip Labatte was likewise a merchant. His second marriage was to the daughter of the last cheif of the Sisseton-Wahpeton in northeastern South Dakota. Our family, my mother's family, still lives on land inherited from Phillip Labatte.
