Bonjour and a Good Day to you,
It has been a while since an update was sent to you relating the efforts of our small but persistent group of international genealogists.
One of our group commented that he was thrilled and amazed at the treasure we have in Pierre-Lionel's writings. I think we all agree that it is a unique family treasure.
I extend my best wishes to you together with a belated Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year and Happy Easter. May all your days be Blessed by the Good Lord. We all would have been better blessed if God had let Pierre-Lionel write in English with fewer words. I do not question God's ways and I pray She continues to smile on our combined family efforts.
As always, there is good news and bad news.......mostly good news.
The good news:
Steady progress has been made with the result that translations of 13 of the 17 chapters have been received.
Of these, 8 have been sent to our volunteer editors.
Of the four chapters (2, 5, 7 & 16) not yet completed, it is anticipated that all will be completed by the end of May.
Jean Primeau, a very very distant relative to all of us, volunteered to do some editing with the objective of preserving the meaning of the Canadian French as opposed to the Parisian French.
The bad news:
Rose Letourneau has had new job responsibilities and is hoping a good soul would finish up her chapter . Nevertheless, she hopes to finish it by the end of May if I fail in finding a substitute.
7 chapters are looking for someone to edit them.
All in all, the target of finishing the translation by the end of the decade appears to be achievable.
It was originally planned to finish the entire book and "publish" it at one time. My thought is to now complete the writings and distribute drafts to all asking for further comments and final corrections. In this way, everyone will get some benefit from their efforts while they are still alive. In the event of my untimely demise, I have left explicit instructions in my Will. Assuming I am still around, this revised program will provide time to do something with all of the tons of exhibits and the plethora of appendices. (God Bless Pierre-Lionel for being so thorough!) Your thoughts on this approach would be appreciated.
I repeat my previous request for further volunteers for a chapter translation (#2) or a chapter or two or three of editing.. If you cannot envision yourself enjoying additional translation or editing, perhaps you can explain to a friend or a relative how educational and how much fun this can be. You will have to use your imagination.
