My GG Grandmother was Latanie EAST, b. abt 1828, York Co., VA. Her name is spelled several different ways in the records. Her father was most likely Charles EAST, as listed in the 1830 and 1840 census' of York Co., VA. Latanie EAST, of Southampton Parrish, York Co., VA, married Thomas DAWSON, 16 Jan 1847. (She was listed as an orphan in the Marriage bonds, and had an older sister Catherine EAST, who married William STROUD, and an older brother Elisha EAST, who was married to Frances HOGG.)
I recently came across a record that indicated there were Latane's prior to 1800 in York Co., VA, and thus believe that my GG Grandmother may have been named after a LATANE ancestor. (I do not know her mother's given or maiden name.)
Any assist would be greatly appreciated.
