Dear David,
Thank you for your message. I think that your "Uncle Cliff" and my grandfather must be somehow related. I like you feel there is a connection due to the brokerage firm. I am 55 now but remember when my mother would receive correspondence from the firm it was headed "Mabon & Company." When I posted the original message I took dates, etc. from memory. I have since looked up specifics. My information shows:
Samuel Clifton Mabon was born 21 June 1871 in New Brunswick, NJ. He died on 25 May 1957 in Mineola, NY. He was married to Margaret Burnham Lunt on 19 July 1917. She was born 13 May 1890 in Portland, ME. She died on 22 Aug 1944 in Mineola, NY. Their children were:
Margaret Burnham Mabon was born 13 May 1918. She married David Knott on 7 Dec 1940.
Barbara Clifton Mabon (my mother) was born 19 Sep 1922 in NYC and died on 14 Nov 1964 in Bradenton, FL.
Hope Mabon was born 13 Mar 1928.
My mother was a juvenile-onset diabetic and Mr. Mabon hired a full time nurse for her. Her name is Muriel Whittaker of Winchester, MA. She has been a long time family friend and we still keep in touch. She has given me bits & pieces concerning my grandfather. She told me he went by Clifton and had a seat at the NYSE. She said his middle name came from Clifton, NJ for whatever reason. She also told me that Hope Mabon was institutionalized, I think in Illinois, due to mental illness. Also, I seem to remember that there was a Kingsley Mabon somewhere in the family because my mother's financial advisor was named Mabon Kingsley and was involved with the firm somhow? I had dealings with Mabon Kingsley in the middle 60's. He lived in Chestertown, MD and retired to St. Simon's Island, GA or thereabouts. Too bad I wasn't smart enough to have asked him all about my grandfather back then. I know he knew him well because Muriel said he was like one of the family.
