I am researching the Charles Winchell family and when I requested his Civil War Pension Records I learned that his wife's maiden name was O'Bannon. She went by Ollie, but it appears her name was probably Olive Louisa O'Bannon. I found her family living in Chester Co, SC, in 1850. Samuel(born abt 1804) and Mary (born abt 1804) O'Bannon with the following children: Robert (1834), Jackson (1835),Caleb (1837), Samuel (1838), Benjamin (1842), Frances (female 1844), and Olive (1845). In the 1860 census they are living in Chattanooga, Hamilton, TN. She states that she and Charles Winchell were married in Chattanooga in January of 1864. She further states that two of her brothers, Jackson and Samuel, attended the marriage ceremony. In the 1870 census the Winchell family is still living in Chattanooga, but in 1880 they were in Tippah Co, TN. In 1900 they are in Sevier Co, AR. Also in the packet of information were two affadavits from Robert K O'Bannon stating that he has known Charles Winchell since he married Ollie and that he has known Ollie for a long time prior to that. He does not say that he is her brother, but the age certainly matches what I found on Robert K O'Bannon in census records. In the 1900 Census Robert K is residing in Sevier Co, AR, with his wife Louisa and their younger children and he states his birth date was Oct 1834 and he was born in South Carolina. My question is this: How does this family fit into the Chester Co, SC, O'Bannon family which appears to be Kimball O'Bannon's. In all the documentation I find I do not find a Samuel O'Bannon of this age connected to them. Also, Robert K O'Bannon is listed as the son of Sampson O'Bannon, but what I see on the census records it appears that Sampson was already living in Alabama by 1830 and Robert Kimball O'Bannon was born in South Carolina several years later. Can anyone give me any help/guidance on this? Appreciate any info. Charlotte Notify Administrator about this message?
