Are you aware a biography/family history and portrait of James O'Boyle are included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, page 976 (with portrait of James & Mary on the next page)?
James O'Boyle was born in Ireland, son of Charles and Margaret (McNeil) O'Boyle. At age 21, James immigrated to the US, arriving in NY and going to St. Joseph, MO, where he worked for two years. James came by boat to Fort Benton, MT, and then to Helena, MT, where he was employed in the mines. He moved to Butte, MT, and worked in the Anaconda Company mines until 1884 when he moved to the Flathead Valley and pre-empted 160 acres of land three miles northwest of where Kalispell now stands. He successfully engaged in general farming and stock raising.
James O'Boyle married Mary LaVelle, born in Ireland, daughter of Edward and Ellen (Curran) LaVelle. O'Boyle living children: Alice, Charles, John, Henry, Francis, Walter.
