Hi Paul, My GGGG grandfather Edward O'Connell, b.circa 1770, is buried in the old Knockanure cemetery. The tombstone there was erected by his grandson Father James O'Connell PP Melbourne Australia. Edwards son James O'Connell, b.circa 1800, was living in Lahardane Townland near Ballybunion and is recorded in Griffiths. He married Anna Pope Hennessey in 1837 and they both died in Listowel. James in 1868 and Anna in 1881. One of James and Annas sons John b.1847 married Bridget Harrington of Kilbaha West which made me think maybe we were related to the O'Connells living there. Other than that I've hit the proverbial brick wall and don't know where to go from here. My GGgrandfather Edward, b.1840 son to James and Anna, emmigrated to New Zealand 1862 on the ship Bombay from London. His brothers Father James PP, b.1844, and John, b.1847, both emigrated to Melbourne, Australia. John did so without his wife Bridget and raised a second family in Melbourne. I'm sure there must be some O'Connells still living in or around Listowel that maybe related but I haven't been able to contact any yet. What conection are you researching? If there's anything I can help you with please let me Know. Sean O'Connell Christchurch New Zealand. Notify Administrator about this message?
