Gloria, Your latest info is really intriguing! I feel a connection... I found some more info ref my grandmother's side...her father and mother's wedding ... notice the witness's names: "Witnesses to the marriage of Albino Romero and Eufemia Hernandez were Vidal Pacheco and Facunda Gold. ( Vidal would be a good candidate for Jose's father). Albino had a sister, Maria Jesus, born 17Feb., 1860 in Guadalupita. He also had brothers Jose Eusebio and Jose Sebasiano as well as another sister, Maria Tomasa who were al confirmed on 3 Aug., 1855. Rafael Romero (Albino's father) is listed in the 1880 census in Las Animas with his family.Several Rafael Romeros also fought in the Civil War for the Union so that is a possibility." I found that Jose and Elena (Helena) were married in 1893...I am guessing in Las Animas county...somewhere around or in Trinidad...their ranch was in Barela (San Francisco canyon area)...is Holy Trinity Catholic church a possibility?...record-wise?
