Hi Joanne. Thank you for writing.

I've posted queries about my husband's grandparents in different places, so I just checked to what I said in this place. I see that I didn't mention that Antonio "Tony" PACHECO died in Taunton.

I was able to find out he was in a car with 3 other men, and they might have been leaving work and starting to head home. But they crashed into a train or trolley car in Taunton. Tony died from his injuries a day or two later. I believe all 4 men were from Cambridge.

During my research (4-5 years) I have found out that there were PACHECO's in Taunton and there might have been a large farm or a large business there.

Part of the problem is that Tony's wife was made a widow when she was pregnant with twin boys. She delivered a month later and the boys were born, but both died before Age 2. And, she was left with 5 or 6 young children to raise alone. When her children were raised, she helped out with her grandchildren. (She was difficult to get along with, I'm told.) And, my husband said she almost never talked about her late husband. So, they grew up knowing almost nothing about him.

They knew there were other PACHECO's in Cambridge but were pretty sure they were not related to them. And, they didn't know if the PACHECO's in Taunton were related.

During my research I have not been able to find out if Tony had any relatives in MA, or even in New England.

When he arrived in the US in ~1905, he must have had someone he was coming to see, but I can't find him in Ellis Island records. And, I don't know whether he arrived in Boston or New Bedford or Fall River, etc.

If Tony had other relatives from Sao Miguel (St. Michael's) who came to the US, perhaps they went directly to CA or FL or the Hawaiian Islands. I just don't know.

There is a lot of information on the PACHECO's in the archives of the Azores Mailing List at www.rootsweb.com

If you can find out the name of the village which your Joseph came from, maybe we can make a connection.

I got that information from Tony's "death certificate" at Taunton City Hall.

That's all I'll say for the moment. I hope we can make a connection.

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

(My long-time friend is now my husband.)
