Catherine was my wife's grandmother, born 1879 at Rodmell, Sussex. She had 4 children - Kathleen Eva (1904), Ivy Vera (1911), Lily M (1912) and Winifred May (1918). Kathleen's birth was registered as Kathleen Packham, father William Packham, cab proprietor, mother Catherine Packham, formerly Packham. But a few months later Kathleen was taken from Brighton, where she was born, to Streatham and was baptised Kathleen King. We do not know why she should have been baptised at Streatham as the family was still living in Brighton. Ivy's birth was also registered under the name Packham, but in the cases of Lily and Win, they were registered as King with their father being Joseph King, taxi driver, mother Catherine King, formerly Packham. I cannot trace a marriage between Catherine and either William or Joseph (who may be one and the same). Any information which might shed light on this mystery will be welcome.
