Hi Rick! My great aunt Madelon (Quackenbush) corresponded with you while you were writing the book. I still have the letters from you, there were 2. The 2nd letter you spoke about an ancestor (David I. Q) that my aunt was trying to place, and who his parents might be. You said you were just making a guess at that time, but you thought David's parents might be Isaac Q & Dirkje (Dorcas) Van Alstyne. I have since inherited the family history & am still trying to figure out the same person she was working on. I cannot find any info linking David clearly to any other Q before him. Below is what I've gathered so far. You can also view my tree here: http://www.gencircles.com/users/mommy2bb/4/data/68. David I. Quackenbush b. abt 1780, NY married Nancy Joy (her info from the Joy Family site) b. 21 Aug 1785, Hampshire Co., MA Nancy's parents: Asa Joy Sr. & MAry Blanchard. David & Nancy's KNOWN child: Levi C. Quackenbush - b. 1824, Macedon, NY married Mary Amity Packard, 20 Oct. 1847, MI. Levi & Mary had 6 children, 5 lived to adulthood. Irving O. is my direct line, my 3G grandfather. I have a bio of him from a local history book, where he says his parents are "David I. Quackenbush & Nancy Joy". It goes on to say David was from Germany & Nancy was of English descent, which is probably not true. Nancy's relatives lived in MA for many gens. I found a David Q in 1820 census, Perinton, Ontario Co., NY. His home had 1 felame age 0-10yrs, 1 female 10-16yrs, 1 female 26-45yrs, 1 male 26-45yrs. I'm not sure if this is him, or just another David. He is living near Teunis Q, who later also lives near Levi C. in Mich (census). I can't figure out where David I. came from, or who his parents or siblings are. I can't find any mention of him in NY, at least not for certain. I don't know where he or Nancy died or were buried. The Joy family says the couple moved from Macedon to Washtenaw Co., MI. This is where Levi C. (their son) says he moved to in 1845, and where he's buried. Eventually his line moved to Ogemaw Co., MI where they settled for 3 gens. You can follow the line to me this way... David I. (b. abt 1780) > Levi C. (1824)> Irving O. (1850) > Levi C. (1882) > Irving Gilbert (1907)> Irving Eugene (1929) > Debra R. > me. My grandpa Gene is still alive & would like to know where his ancestors fit in the Quackenbush tree. Any help you can lend is appreciated. Notify Administrator about this message?
