Major Waugh is as far back in the family tree that I have been successful in finding info. In several news clippings and his obituary it mentions him being a Major in the War of 1812. It is possible he obtained his property in Hennepin, Putnam County, Illinois for his service in the war. Virginia has come up at times with other family members. If he had a 2nd name, Alexander, Warren, James, William, Bernard, Francis and Recide have come up in the family tree. A relative, Samuel Waugh, was born in Ligonier Valley of Westmoreland county PA.in 1828. His parents were James and Jane (Parks) Waugh. His grandfather was Richard Waugh, of Scottish descent, a native of Cumberland county, PA. I am wondering if James and John shared the same grandfather, Richard Waugh of Cumberland county. I will try to find more.
