Hander vs. Xander

This tip is for anyone attempting to look up Xander in the U.S. Census or other old documents. I am finding that the name Xander is being misread by the transcribers as Hander. This is because the X and H look almost identical in 19th century script. I contacted one transcriber and she said that when she went back and looked at the original document, it was obvious that it was the letter X instead of the letter H. She went back into the census from other years as well as marriage records and found the same error to be common. Once I started looking up "Hander", I started finding many of the missing branches of the family tree.

I hope that this tip is helpful to someone.
